Before it’s too late….
The best friend of someone I know collapsed recently with a heart attack. He died on the way to the hospital. He was 44, married and had two teenage kids. He was also very overweight, with a poor diet and never exercised. The paramedics had a difficult time getting him out of his bedroom and down the stairs to the ambulance. This inevitably delayed care for him (not their fault).
I’m sharing this for two reasons. One is that we all need to remember that life can be cut short at any time. Live it to the fullest, and be sure to spend time with those you love because your memories are what last.
The other reason is that sometimes when people are suggesting that you make better food choices or make changes to your lifestyle, they aren’t just trying to boss you around. They really love you and want you to be around for a long time leading a happy, functional life. So before you get mad at them because you’re “a grown man/woman who doesn’t need to be told what to do”, stop and really hear what they’re saying and more importantly ask yourself why they’re saying it. Maybe it’s time to listen and make some healthful changes. Before it’s too late.
